School Resource Officers

  • The School Resource Officer (SRO) Unit partners with District 271 to promote a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment for students, staff, and families
  • Specially trained officers are assigned to school campuses to build trust, enhance safety, and support student well‑being
  • Safety and Security – helping prevent and respond to incidents through visibility, preparedness, and collaboration with school staff.
  • Mentorship and Education – fostering positive relationships with students and providing age‑appropriate education on topics such as safety, decision‑making, and the law.
  • Problem Solving and Support – working with administrators, counselors, parents, and community partners to address concerns early and connect students with appropriate resources.
  • The SRO Unit is committed to communityoriented policing principles, emphasizing prevention, communication, and respect.
  • Through close partnership with District 271, SROs help ensure schools remain places where students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

  • The See, Tell, Now Student Threat Reporting System (commonly referred to as a Tipline) is staffed by trained tip line technicians 24/7 call center who will receive and evaluate all tips.
  • Tips are processed for accuracy and information.
  • Tips that are serious or imminent danger are routed through your assigned dispatch center.
